Nest Acoustic Panels: Planning & Installation

DEVOX product guide · Published 8 October 2026

Nest combines wood veneer slats, an MDF core and felt backing for indoor feature walls and acoustic treatments. Plan the appearance and the mounting arrangement together, because installation affects sound absorption.

Sound absorption and soundproofing

Acoustic panels help absorb sound reflected within a room. They can help address reverberation, but they do not by themselves establish how much sound will pass through a wall to another room. Sound isolation needs a separate assessment of the building assembly, doors and other sound paths.

The DEVOX Nest brochure reports these CSIRO sound absorption configurations on page 3:

  • No air gap: NRC 0.55 and sound absorption class D.
  • 55 mm air gap: NRC 0.70 and sound absorption class C.

These figures describe the reported test arrangements. They are not a promise of a 55% or 70% reduction in room noise, and they should not be applied to a different build-up without checking the test documentation. Ask DEVOX for the underlying report and mounting details when a project needs a specified acoustic result.

Plan coverage and panel quantities

Current Nest options are 600 × 21 × 2700 mm and 600 × 21 × 3000 mm, with White Oak, Black and Walnut finishes listed. Check the selected variant and availability on the product page before ordering.

Measure each wall and decide where full-height panels, cut pieces and joins will sit. As a simple layout example, a 3.6 m wide wall could use six nominal 600 mm-wide panels across it. A 2.7 m height matches the nominal 2700 mm option. That illustration does not allow for openings, tolerances, edge details or waste; verify the actual installation layout first.

Panel quantity for a decorative wall is different from the acoustic coverage needed for a room. Room size, hard surfaces, furniture and panel placement all matter. For a studio, theatre or another performance-led project, use an acoustic professional to determine coverage and the required construction. The panel calculator provides an initial quantity estimate, not a room acoustic design.

Cut the veneer carefully

  1. Mark the cut with a pencil rather than a permanent marker.
  2. Apply 25 mm masking tape across the cut and press it firmly onto each slat. Re-mark the line on the tape.
  3. Follow the brochure's instruction to cut from the wood slat side with a fine-toothed saw. Support the panel and guide the saw steadily.
  4. For a circular saw, clamp a straight edge securely and follow the tool's safety instructions.
  5. Remove the tape carefully and wipe away any adhesive residue after cutting.

Fix the panels for the chosen arrangement

Protect the slats by laying the panel face down on a soft surface while preparing it. The brochure specifies a good-quality construction panel adhesive and following its manufacturer's cure instructions. Confirm adhesive compatibility and the fixing method for your wall surface before applying it.

Align the panel from the bottom, press it into position and secure it as required by the agreed installation. The brochure requires both adhesive and screw fixing for ceiling panels and for panels stacked vertically to gain extra height. Have the installer confirm suitable structural fixings and anchors; adhesive alone is not the documented method for those applications.

If using an air-gap arrangement for acoustic performance, obtain the corresponding mounting detail before building the support frame. Do not infer a complete system from the gap dimension alone.

Everyday care

The DEVOX FAQ recommends a soft brush or a vacuum with a soft brush attachment for acoustic panels. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning. Nest is intended for indoor use; check the proposed location and moisture conditions before installing.
